In this thought-provoking and moving film by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Michael King, we follow historian Sir Martin Gilbert and anti-genocide activist Stephanie Nyombayire as they give a voice to the 13 international diplomats who saved thousands of Jews during WWII.
Gilbert, a prolific historical author, travels by rail throughout Europe for 35 days with Nyombayire to speak with descendants of some of the diplomats and survivors. The pair are united by personal grief as Gilbert reflects on the deaths of his own relations during the Holocaust and Nyombayire grieves the lives of her many relatives who were lost during the Rwanda atrocities of the 1990s.
King has created an incredibly heartfelt film that includes footage from WWII and dramatic re-enactments, examining the “mystery of goodness” that motivated diplomats to help others.
