“A well-crafted and idiosyncratic supernatural thriller... plays like a mix of Frankenstein, The Witch, and the Coen brothers.” - Los Angeles Times
Set in 17th century Eastern Europe, The Golem follows a woman in a devout Jewish community that is besieged by foreign invaders who believe that the Jews have cursed them with a plague. The leader of the invaders threatens to destroy the whole village if his dying daughter, who has been infected by the plague, isn’t cured. In order to protect her village, a woman conjures a creature in the visage of her deceased child, which turns out to be more dangerous than she ever imagined.
A chillingly effective - and sometimes bloody - horror story rooted in rich folklore, The Golem blends centuries-old stories with timely themes to powerful effect.
