The Duchess of Warsaw

The Duchess of Warsaw

An artistically rendered, stirring tale set in a fantastical Paris where a concentration camp survivor reveals her dark past to her grandson.

Valentin, a painter struggling to discover love and beauty, is reunited with his grandmother Nina, a Polish Jewish expatriate. Over the course of a few days spent together in a dreamland Paris, Valentin increasingly expresses his need to know the truth that Nina has sought to hide for so long. As they wander together through the capital, Nina unravels the past to her grandson, a story she had long chosen to forget.

Set amidst the perpetual allure of a beautifully imagined Paris, this is a sumptuous narrative of survivors and younger generations reconnecting with faded memories. Once Nina is able to let go, Valentin reconnects with his artistic inspiration. In the early morning light, Valentin adds colour to his paintings and truly begins to live. With a set purely composed of life-size canvas paintings, The Duchess of Warsaw offers a truly unique cinematic experience.

“The Duchess of Warsaw is the film I’ve always dreamt of filming: surreal images attempt to visually describe what words cannot” - Joseph Morder, Director
