The City

The City

Australian Premiere

A dazzling Israeli rap opera…a truly original, beautifully made, and extremely witty movie.” - The Jerusalem Post

In a dark city in a fictional world, on a stormy night in an unknown time, Sarah Bennett arrives at the office of Detective Joe (Amit Ulman), asking him to find her missing sister. Though he knows nothing good will come of it, Joe agrees to open an investigation, which quickly spirals into chaos, and finds himself alone up against the most dangerous criminal in the city.

Nominated in six categories for the 2024 Israeli Oscars and destined to be a cult classic, Amit Ulman’s The City is a testament to the vitality and creativity of independent cinema. Based on Ulman’s smash-hit, long-running play of the same name, this hybrid hip-hop, film noir detective story gathers some of the most talented figures of the new musical scene in Israel, many appearing for the first time on screen.
