The Big Dig (Te'alat Blaumilch)

The Big Dig

From beloved satirist Ephraim Kishon, The Big Dig (1969) is a slapstick comedy lampooning bureaucracy and the madness of everyday life in Israel.

Kasimir Blaumilch escapes a psychiatric ward, steals a pneumatic drill, and starts ripping up the streets of Tel Aviv, wreaking havoc and bringing the city to a standstill. Meanwhile, city officials busy themselves with trying to figure out whether to denounce Blaumilch's crazy behaviour or take credit for his increasingly popular and industrious work. Kishon presents a sharp, witty, and hilarious satire that blurs the fine line between normal and insane.

Nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film (1969).
