Make Hummus Not War

Make Hummus Not War

Australian filmmaker Trevor Graham is a self-confessed ‘hummus tragic’ whose love of the simple dish can be traced back to some of the most important moments of his life. His culinary passion developed into a weekly ritual in his Bondi home where he mashed chickpeas, lemon juice, garlic and tahini to create the perfect hummus.

In an attempt to trace the origins of hummus, Graham decided to travel the world where he identified three areas each claiming the recipe as their own – Israel, Palestine and Lebanon. This ‘food fight’ came to a head in 2008 when Lebanon actually sued Israel over proprietary rights to the dip-like delicacy.

An open love letter to a food favoured by millions, Make Hummus Not War is a very funny and heartwarming travelogue that sets out to end the hummus debate once and for all, and pose an even more provocative question: could a regional love of hummus be the recipe for peace in the Middle East?
