Drawing Against Oblivion (Zeichnen gegen das Vergessen)

Drawing Against Oblivion

“What happened to the children who lay in the wrong crib?” asks Austrian artist Manfred Bockelmann as he seeks to give new life to the memory of countless children murdered during the Holocaust through his work.

Winner of three New York Festival Gold Medals, Drawing Against Oblivion is a German documentary showcasing the work of an artist on a mission to preserve the memory of the Holocaust through the eyes of children who were both murdered and who narrowly escaped extermination. To fulfill his mission, Bockelman travels to Auschwitz and the US to speak to children who survived the death camps.

Powerfully rendering the Holocaust without the use of archival footage, this film is a poignant reminder of the necessity of vigilance in the face of racism today.
