Baba Joon

Baba Joon

“Outstanding… [a] brilliantly crafted drama” — Jerusalem Post

Jewish-Iranian patriarch Yitzhak (Navid Negahban, Homeland) proudly maintains the turkey farm that his father built when the family moved from Iran to Israel. When his precocious son Moti turns thirteen, Yitzhak shows him the tricks of the trade in order to continue the family tradition. With zero interest in turkeys, the rebellious Moti is not bashful about spurning the family business, and for Yitzhak this rejection is an insult to all the values he holds most dear. Chronicling the burgeoning conflict between father and son in a hard-working Iranian-Israeli family, Yuval Delshad’s semi-autobiographical debut offers both insight into the immigrant experience, and a universal story of intergenerational tension. The first ever Farsi language Israeli film, Baba Joon won five 2015 Ophir Awards (Israeli Oscars) including Best Picture, and was Israel’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
