Winning awards at film festivals across Europe, An Apartment in Berlin is a provocative documentary that examines the complex connection of young Israelis’ to Germany’s troubled past.
Attracted by the cosmopolitan and international atmosphere of Berlin, an estimated 20,000 Israelis have moved to Germany’s capital in recent years. Three generations after the Holocaust, young Israelis Eyal, Yael and Yoav embark on a journey into the past by refurbishing the apartment of the Adlers, Berliner Jews who were deported by the Nazis to the concentration camps. Encouraged by the filmmaker, they create a shrine to Berlin’s tragic Jewish history.
Intended as a journey into the past, this multilayered and unexpected film explores whether it is possible to connect the tragedy of the past to young Israelis’ present.
